PRAXIS III
The PRAXIS III: Classroom Performance Assessments are a system for evaluating the skills of beginning teachers in classroom settings. They are typically used after a teacher has gained some classroom teaching experience. They are intended for use by teacher licensing organizations as part of the licensing process. They may not, however, be used to make employment decisions about currently licensed teachers. PRAXIS III is currently in use in Arkansas and Ohio.
Format of the PRAXIS III
PRAXIS III is an assessment system whose goal is to gain a complete understanding of the teaching skills of a beginning teacher. There are three main components to this system:
- The framework of knowledge and skills. This framework consists of 19 assessment criteria in four interrelated areas:
- Organizing content for student learning (teaching planning)
- Creating an environment for learning (classroom environment)
- Instruction
- Professional responsibilities
- Instruments to be used by teacher assessors to help collect and analyze data, and evaluate teacher performance.
- Training for teacher assessors.
Licensing organizations who are interested in evaluating PRAXIS III for use in teacher licensure decisions should contact the Educational Testing System.
